First of all, I never imagined my love of music would take me around the world. If so, it probably would have been through performing and touring, certainly not by running an audio mastering business. Well, life is full of surprises.
Legend states that the Hindu mother goddess gave a spear to Murugan, the god of war. With this spear, she helped him destroy an evil demon. Once a year on the full moon, Tamil Hindus around the world commemorate this during the fascinating Thaipusam Festival. They do so by fasting for 48 hours, and carrying heavy pots of milk on their heads. Others, incredibly, by “spearing” their own skin. Some even wear heavy, elaborate metal cages that are literally “fish hooked” and chained into...

Riding the island of Samar was much more of an adventure than I thought it would be. First of all, it's huge. Second, it's not so developed...and while it's great to get off the well-worn tourist path, the roads are pretty rough. Third, it was the start of the rainy season. However, the landscapes are great for photography, the locals were friendly, and the food was quite good. I'll show you...
I was on a challenging (but beautiful) motorbike ride through the massive region of Samar, Philippines. I wanted to stop by Calbayog, because I read there were 2 beautiful waterfalls in the mountains there. Bangon Falls looked pretty nice, but I was really interested in photographing majestic Tarangban Falls further up the trail...
I was in the Philippines during Typhoon Yolanda. I weathered the storm with a family in Legazpi, about 250kms away from the epicenter, Tacloban City. I volunteered doing repacking afterward, but at the time, was not allowed to visit Tacloban. 3 years later, I finally got my chance. I flew to Leyte province, and I must say...Tacloban is doing much, much better than I thought it would be...

This is the story of my last night in Taipei...it was so much more than just a hotel stay - it was an experience...and one that I could not pass up.
I was on an epic motorbike trip around massive Leyte province in the southern Philippines. Along a peaceful, secluded coastline, far removed from the hustle and bustle of Tacloban City, lies Padre Burgos. Humble and unassuming...yet it beckons adventurous divers from around the world.
During a motorbike tour of the central Philippines, Leyte Gulf Travel and Tours invited me to experience the gem of their province - Stunning Kalanggaman Island. I had received some inside tips about the sandbar on this island, so I already knew it was a MUST SEE...

I'm not sure why, but somehow I always pictured Leyte as kind of boring...and flat. Instead, as my flight from Cebu prepared for landing in Tacloban, I was shocked to see beautiful, mountainous terrain out the window! Add to that coconut-tree lined white-sand beaches, and you see why my excitement really began to grow...
Staying at Caluwayan is like being let in on a very good secret...definitely one of the gems of the southern Philippines!
